Pack Meetings and Events

Parents of Pack 2842

The current Virginia restrictions put us in an interesting position going into 2021

The good news is that we have already adapted to Den meetings separate and in numbers that remain beneath the 10 person guidance set out by the Executive order.

It is at these Den meetings that we will begin doing awards for the duration so that, though we cannot all gather as a Pack in person, we can still recognize our achievements among peers.

Here are some ideas I wanted to run by the Scouting families to see what you think

1) Google Meet Pack meetings on the day and time of the calendar pack meeting

2) A monthly outdoor activity like a Hike or smores by the fire or star gazing, likely on the Saturday before or after our planned Pack meeting. We could use Signup Genius to manage spots, or... in the case of a Hike or similar activity, go in groups that remain lower than 10.

3) Add 1 more den meeting per month in stead of a Pack meeting and I can float from den to den through the month.

4) Something I have not come up with

There is also the challenge of the Pinewood Derby.

We are not permitted to use the Church or it's parking lot under the current EO.

So, in order to still hold a race, I will need an outdoor venue that will allow for a 32 foot track! Any suggestions or options INCLUDING Someone's Garage will be welcome.

If we find that we can go forward with the race, I will see about organizing smaller "car cut" events with the parents in the pack willing to donate some time and lend the use of their woodworking tools to the cause.

In March, we will face a new challenge, Myself, Amanda McNichol, Jason Gibson, Wendy Cone and Joel Glasgow all have scouts who will be graduating out of Cub Scouts in March. This represents our entire Pack Leadership.

To continue after this time, we must have at least 3 parents of Wolf, Bear or Weblos 1 scouts, step forward and take up the mantle of "Cubmaster, Committee Chair, and Treasurer" There are, other positions and jobs that need to be done, however this is the minimum required by BSA, without these positions filled, the Pack cannot continue. The reality is, with the great Den leaders we already have, and the reduced numbers we have now, the job has become much easier.

Amanda has already completed our Recharter for the year.

The Pack Dues are now done through Pay-Pal so collecting and managing them is much easier than in the days of personal checks, cash and card readers.

The Pack website has just been redone in Google-sites and is very easy to manage

If you intend to finish your Scout's adventure through Arrow of Light, Please consider stepping in to these shoes. Thanks

Scout Meetings under Executive Order #72

From: George McGovern, Scout Executive

Date: December 11, 2020

RE: Scout Meetings under Executive Order #72

On December 10, 2020, Governor Northam announced Executive Order #72, stating that all private and public in-person social gatherings of more than 10 people who do not live in the same residence are prohibited effective Monday, December 14, 2020. The governor is taking this action due to a spike in COVID-19 cases, positive tests, and hospitalizations across the Commonwealth of Virginia, and has stated that these restrictions will stay in place until January 31, 2021.

The Heart of Virginia Council asks all Scout Units, Districts, and Committees to limit face to face meetings, gathering, and group outings to 10 people or less to comply with this Executive Order. Scout Units should also consult with their Charter Organization and meet any of their specific requirements or concerns.

We know that this 10-person limit will be a huge challenge for large packs and troops. Units can consider breaking their members into groups of 10 or less and holding meetings at different times or in different locations as well as considering virtual or hybrid meetings to comply with the Governor’s Orders.

Executive Order #72 will impact events and activities scheduled to happen at our camps, limiting groups to 10 people or less.

Scouting for Food!

Door Hangars are out and we will be collecting food donations on Saturday the 21st. For more information coordinate with your Den Leaders and read the FAQ

National Statement on COVID-19

August 24, 2020

As always, the safety of our Scouts, volunteers, employees and communities is our top priority.

Our response to the coronavirus pandemic continues to be informed by the guidance of official bodies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, whose framework for mitigation for community groups is based on the level of community transmission of COVID-19.

The Boy Scouts of America is advising local councils to consult with their local and state health departments, as well as local chartered partners, in order to implement the appropriate protocols to help keep our members, volunteers, and employees safe. Units should look to their councils for guidance on whether to conduct in-person meetings and activities again. If a unit’s local council is allowing in-person activities but has restrictions in place (e.g., no more than 10, social distancing of 6 ft. etc.), the unit must meet and abide by those restrictions – even if the unit is traveling out of council/state.

We are taking similar steps as a national organization as we continue to evaluate the current environment with the best interests of our members, volunteers, and employees in mind.

We thank you for helping meet the needs of our communities throughout these difficult times.
